Contribution Regulations

Eligibility for submission

  • Regular and non-members of the Korean Society of Design History (Non-members must register as a member upon posting after review)

The nature of the submitted manuscript

  • All types of manuscripts that can contribute to the study of design history, including academic papers, book reviews, exhibition reviews, essays, international conference participation reports, various contributions, and works of design history and its neighboring disciplines.

    All submitted manuscripts can only be published after a review process.

    Manuscripts that have already been published are not permitted, and manuscripts published in this journal cannot be arbitrarily published on other pages. Manuscripts that have already been published or published in other journals or media are resubmitted, or one manuscript is reviewed and published at the same time. In the case of duplicate submissions in other journals at the same time, the submission and publication will be canceled regardless of the results of the review, and the submission qualification will be disqualified for the next one year. Conference, journal, manuscript submission schedule and method

  • Academic conferences, publication in academic journals, and manuscript submissions will be conducted according to the following schedule. However, submission of manuscripts is carried out from time to time.

    Conference: 3rd week of May every year, 3rd week of October every year (twice a year, date may change)

    Submission deadline: July 10th and November 10th every year

    Journal publication date: August 31st and February 29th every year

    Manuscripts can be submitted online at any time. However, it is recommended to submit at least 2 months prior to the conference for regular reception in order to operate academic conferences and to establish a schedule for publication of academic journals.

    Submissions are only accepted through the Google'online submission' system linked to the homepage.

How to write a thesis

  • Language of submission

      • In principle, all submitted manuscripts should be written in Korean. For submissions in English or foreign languages, please contact us by e-mail. If you want to apply an article written in English or any other foreign language, please contact at k.designhistory@gmail.com before the application made.
      • However, the editorial board decides whether to include the original and translated texts for thesis written in foreign languages.

    Form of submission

      • Manuscripts should be written in Hancom Office Korean by using the given form file (using style).
      • Text font: Font: Hamcho long background, font size: 10 points, character width: 98%, between characters: -3%, between lines: 180%, column: 1 column, paragraph alignment: align left end, spill right end (body Other titles, author names, references, etc. are all the same)

    Author notation

      • If there are two or more authors of the thesis, it is indicated by footnotes as 1 author, 2 authors, etc. according to the contribution of the thesis writing.
      • If the contribution of multiple authors is similar in the writing of the manuscript, they are indicated as co-authors through footnotes.
      • For all submitted manuscripts, the main author (contributor) affiliation, title, phone number, and e-mail address should be specified at the bottom of the first page of the manuscript.

      • In the first cited document, write a complete bibliography as follows, but in the next repeated citation, only the author's name (last name in English), title, and number of cited pages are included.     List of references

      • The list of references should be written in the order of book (book, edited, translated), dissertation (academic, dissertation), publication (regular, irregular), website, and collected data (interview records, etc.).
      • Following the above principles, sub-classifications are listed in the order of Korean literature, Eastern literature, and Western literature.
      • All references are listed in alphabetical order by author's name, and foreign documents are listed in alphabetical order by author's name.
      • For writing in Chinese and Japanese documents, write down the original language and arrange them in the order of pronunciation in Korean and Korean.
      • The author's name should be marked with first and last names for Koreans, and first, middle, and last names for foreigners with spaces.

    Figure, table notation

      • All figures and tables are labeled with corresponding numbers and descriptions at the bottom.
      • In the text, it is indicated as [Figure 1] and [Table 1].
      • When entering the end of a sentence, put a space after the period and angle brackets. [Yes: … You will be given an opportunity to overcome. [Picture 1]]
      • If what the angle brackets refer to is limited to the preceding word, put the brackets without a space. [Example: What you can see in the work [Figure 1] above]

    Page number notation

      • Each page of the manuscript must be marked with a page number.

Non-dissertation notation regulations

  • In the case of non-dissertation, the above regulations should be followed as much as possible, but should be written at the contributor's autonomy.

Other notation

Submission fee and publication fee payment criteria

  • Upon submission, the submission fee (examination fee) of 30,000 won is paid to the conference account.

    If the publication is confirmed after the review is completed, an additional 100,000 won will be paid for the publication fee. (Same for thesis and non-dissertation) (However, manuscript fees are paid for manuscripts requested by the Publishing Committee and Editorial Committee.)

    All contributors pay an additional publication fee of KRW 5,000 per page in the case of more than 15 pages based on the thesis writing format.

    The publication fee for thesis receiving research funding is 250,000 won. (Submission fee is the same as general submission)

    The Society issues a receipt for the submission fee and publication fee when requested by the contributor.

    Submission fees are waived if thesis presented at the conference is revised and submitted. (Payment fee is paid)

    Submission fees and publication fees for non-dissertations are also applied in accordance with the above criteria.

Examination Regulations

Thesis screening procedure

  • Submitted thesis is requested to be reviewed by two or more judges commissioned according to each specialized field without the information of the contributor. Submitted thesis is reviewed by appointing two researchers specialized in the relevant field, and whether or not it is possible to publish it is decided. However, in the case of a judgment in which the content of the judges is contradictory, an additional judge is appointed, and the final result is made by synthesizing the results of the three judges.

Thesis screening criteria

  • Focusing on the originality of the subject, the quality of the thesis, professionalism, system and format, academic contribution, and adherence to research ethics, the evaluation is conducted in accordance with the items and scoring criteria set in the 「Thesis Review」.
    Evaluation grade
      • A score of 90 or higher (A): It is judged to be very excellent as an academic paper and is published without complete information.
      • 89-80 (B): Excellent as an academic paper, but published on the premise of simple revision for publication
      • 79-70 points (C): A considerable amount of revision is required in terms of content and format, and publication is decided through re-evaluation after revision.
      • 69 points or less (D): Cannot be published

Determination of thesis publication

  • Based on the evaluation results of two judges, the editorial committee decides on publication, revised publication, re-evaluation after revised, and rejection of publication.
      • Publication: AA
      • Post revised: AB, AC, BB
      • Re-examination after revision: AD, BC, BD, CC
      • Cannot be published: CD, DD

Measures for the evaluation result

  • If the evaluation grade is less than 90 points, the contributor may be requested to revise or supplement the manuscript. Submitters who are requested to be revised and supplemented submit the revised thesis by the schedule specified by the Journal Publishing Committee. However, if there is an objection to the request for revision, the contributor can raise the objection in writing up to 30 days before publication of the journal, and the editor-in-chief can attach it to the written review.
    In the ethics evaluation category, the editorial committee deliberates and decides whether or not plagiarism is first, with the editorial board withheld the determination of whether or not to publish the manuscript that received an error score from even one judge.
    Papers that have been judged to be suspected of plagiarism in the review process are referred to the Research Ethics Committee, finalized through investigation, deliberation, and judgment, and take action in accordance with the Research Ethics Regulations.

Non-dissertation screening criteria

  • It conforms to the thesis review criteria, but the format gives the author the maximum degree of autonomy depending on the nature of the manuscript. The publication value of non-dissertation is evaluated by placing the greatest importance on the level and diversity that can expand the content and extension of the research.

Ethics Regulation

General rule

  • Name, purpose
      • This regulation is called the Research Ethics Regulations of the Korean Society of Design History.
      • These regulations are the ethical principles and standards that authors, reviewers, and editors must adhere to, and procedures for handling ethical violations at academic conferences operated by the society and papers (including non-thesis) desired to be published, submitted, and published in academic journals published by the society. It aims to determine.
    Compliance
      • All authors, reviewers, and editors related to the publication of journals must comply with this regulation. In particular, authors must not commit research misconduct as suggested in Chapter 2.
      • Authors who wish to be published may submit a manuscript after agreeing to the obligation to comply with this regulation.
    Copyright and copyright utilization
      • The copyright of the submitted manuscript belongs to the author himself.
      • The right to use the copyright of the submitted manuscript belongs to the society.
      • Authors should discuss the use of submitted manuscripts with the society in terms of compliance with research ethics, such as duplicate use of research results.

Code of Ethics for Authors

  • range
      • Research misconduct refers to forgery, alteration, plagiarism, unfair author labeling, duplicate publication, etc., performed in the process of writing and publishing a manuscript submitted to an academic journal.
      • The research ethics committee is responsible for the specific determination of whether or not research misconduct is committed.
    Counterfeiting and tampering
      • Forgery refers to the act of creating false data or research results that do not exist.
      • Modulation refers to the act of distorting research content or results by artificially manipulating research materials, equipment, and processes, or by arbitrarily modifying or deleting data.
    plagiarism
      • Plagiarism is the content of other people's academic ideas, opinions, expressions, research results, etc. already published through all written media such as domestic and international academic journals, academic conference papers, research reports, master's and doctoral dissertations, books, magazines, and the Internet. It refers to the act of deliberately describing the source without clarifying the source.
      • Plagiarism is applicable even when the description without citation is more than a certain amount and the expression is similar to the content that has already been announced.
      • Plagiarism applies even if the author is the same as the author of the previously published content (self-plagiarism).
      • However, it is not considered plagiarism even if the academic knowledge or research results, etc., which are already common and used in academia, are described without citation.
    Incorrect author marking (*revision required*)
      • Unfair author marking refers to the act of granting authorship to a person who has not made scientific or technical contributions or contributions to the contents or results of a research.
      • Authors should be limited to those who have contributed significantly to the manuscript following the items below, and all authors whose contributions are confirmed should be marked as participating (co-authors).
      • Corresponding authors must confirm that all participating (co-authors) have verified and approved the submitted manuscript, and that they have consented to submission for publication.
    Author's Duties
      • Accuracy or Integrity of Work: Responsibility for all aspects to ensure that content related to this part is properly investigated and resolved.
      • Data access and retention: Provide and store data related to the submitted manuscript for editorial review
      • Basic errors in publications: Immediately report any errors or inaccuracies in the submitted manuscript or publication.
      • Disclosure of Interest: Disclosure of a financial or substantial conflict of interest that may affect the results or interpretation of the manuscript.
    Duplicate delivery
      • Duplicate publication refers to the act of submitting, presenting, or publishing a research product (including a research subject to be published or under review) already published in domestic and international academic journals, as if they were new research materials.
      • When submitting all or part of the research material presented at an academic conference, etc. as it is or modified or supplemented to an academic journal, the fact must be stated.
      • When submitting to an academic journal with all or part of the contents of the master's or doctoral dissertation and research report as it is, or revised or supplemented, the fact must be stated.
    Unfair quotes and references
      • Unfair citations and reference marks are inaccurate or unclear about the research content or academic materials (research papers, conference presentations, books, translations, newspaper articles, content posted on the website and downloaded documents, pictures, videos, sounds, etc.) It refers to the act of marking one information or arbitrarily changing or omitting information.
      • When citing publicly available academic materials, efforts must be made to describe them accurately, and unless the materials belong to common sense, the source must be clearly clarified through citations and references.
      • Data obtained through personal contact may be cited only after obtaining the consent of the information provider.
      • Citations and references should be cited and referenced through footnotes, endnotes, or references, and should be displayed in accordance with the format specified in the submission regulations.
      • Related materials used in the manuscript, such as photographs, drawings, images, diagrams, including figures and tables, must undergo copyright verification.
      • In principle, figures, tables, and related materials that have not been prepared by the contributor (including co-authors) cannot be used in principle, but if academically available, the source should be clearly indicated.
      • If the copyright has not been resolved, attach a document on the transfer and use of the copyright of the material for academic purposes, and indicate that the license has been obtained from the copyright holder. (Refer to the copyright transfer and license form)

Judge's Code of Ethics

  • Sincerity evaluation
      • The reviewers must sincerely evaluate the manuscript requested for review by the editorial board within the period set by the review regulations and notify the editorial board of the evaluation results.
      • If it is judged that the content is not suitable for evaluation, it shall be notified to the editorial board without delay.
    Process evaluation
      • The judges must evaluate the submitted text fairly. Submissions should not be rejected without specifying sufficient grounds, or should not be rejected because they conflict with the viewpoint or interpretation of the reviewers.
    Keep secret
      • The judges must keep the confidentiality of the submissions to be judged. Submitted texts must not be shown to others or discussed with others without the permission of the editorial board.
      • The content must not be cited without the author's consent before the manuscript is published.

Code of Ethics for Editorial Board Members

  • fair
      • The editorial board shall treat the manuscript fairly based on the quality level of the manuscript and the rules of the manuscript, regardless of the author's nationality, gender, age, organization, or any prejudice or personal relationship.
    Selection of judges
      • The editorial board should request the evaluation of the submitted manuscript to a judge with professional knowledge and fair judgment ability in the relevant field, and try to make an objective evaluation as much as possible by avoiding judges who are too close or hostile with the author.
    Keep secret
      • 편집위원은 투고문의 게재가 결정될 때까지는 심사자 이외의 사람에게 저자에 대한 사항이나 투고문의 내용을 공개하지 않아야 한다.

Regulation violation review and handling

  • Membership obligations
      • Members must comply with this regulation.
      • Members should report violations of this regulation to the Research Ethics Committee.
    Composition and duties of the Research Ethics Committee
      • The Research Ethics Committee is appointed by the chairman of the thesis editing committee appointed by the chairman, and is commissioned by the chairman after a resolution of the board of directors.
      • The Research Ethics Committee consists of 5 or more members including the chairperson.
      • The chairman of the Research Ethics Committee is elected and resolved by the elected committee and appointed by the president.
      • The Research Ethics Committee investigates allegations and violations contrary to this regulation.
      • The Research Ethics Committee decides whether or not the regulations are violated.
      • The Research Ethics Committee notifies the editorial board of the decision to violate the regulations.
      • The Research Ethics Committee may recommend disciplinary action to the president of the society for members who violate the rules.
    Review of violation of research ethics regulations
      • If there is a suspicion of violating this regulation, such as research misconduct, the Research Ethics Committee shall collect relevant data and initiate an investigation without delay.
      • The Research Ethics Committee must give the person concerned an opportunity to explain in writing on the proposed agenda prior to reviewing for violations of the regulations.
      • The Research Ethics Committee decides whether or not to violate the rules by agreeing to vote more than 2/3 of the members and 2/3 of the members present.
      • The Research Ethics Committee will review the violation of the regulations and notify the author of the contents and reasons.
      • The author or reviewer may raise a written objection to the contents or reasons for the review by the Research Ethics Committee.
      • If the objection of the author or reviewer is raised in writing, the Research Ethics Committee must re-evaluate it. The re-examination proceeds in the same manner as the first audit, and the result is notified in writing to the person concerned.
      • Regarding the results of the re-evaluation by the Research Ethics Committee, the author and the reviewer may raise objections in writing, and in this case, the Research Ethics Committee re-evaluates and makes a final decision. At this time, the Research Ethics Committee may constitute a committee composed of a member who has undergone re-examination and other members for examination.
      • The Research Ethics Committee shall not disclose to the outside the identity of the person who reported violations of the regulations and those who were judged to be in violation of the regulations.
    penalty
      • When the Research Ethics Committee finalizes and informs the author's research misconduct, the Editorial Committee immediately stops the procedure for presenting the submitted manuscript to the academic conference and publishing the journal. If it has already been published, the publication will be canceled, and the canceled tax statement will be notified of the violation through the academic journal and the conference website.
      • Authors who are judged as research misconduct by the Research Ethics Committee cannot submit to academic conferences or journals for 3 years from the time of the decision of the Research Ethics Committee.
      • Judges who have been judged by the Research Ethics Committee for violating this regulation will be revoked as a reviewer for the thesis and will be deprived of their qualifications for one year from the time of the decision of the Research Ethics Committee.
      • If there is a disciplinary recommendation from the Research Ethics Committee, the chairman may convene a temporary operation committee to finally decide whether to discipline and the details of the disciplinary action, and to warn members who violate the regulations through a resolution of the board of directors, and to take disciplinary action such as suspension or deprivation of membership. have. In addition, this action can be communicated to other organizations or individuals.

Supplementary provisions

  • Regulations for matters not specified in this regulation
      • For other matters not specified in this research ethics regulation, “Guidelines for securing research ethics” [Enforcement 2018. 7. 17] [Ministry of Education Directive No. 263, 2018. 7. 17, partially amended] shall be followed.
    Regulation opening and closing
      • This regulation can be opened and closed through the resolution of the board of directors of the society.
    Rule enforcement date
      • This regulation will be enacted and enforced from January 1, 2020.
