민주인권기념관(National Museum of Democracy and Human Rights)은 과거 인권유린과 국가폭력의 현장이자 상징이었던 남영동 대공분실을 보존하고, 전시와 교육시설을 더하여 새로운 문화 공간으로 2024년 개관합니다.
기억과 성찰, 소통과 연대, 인권 교육의 공간으로 탄생할 민주인권기념관에서는 전시뿐만 아니라 개관 이후에도 선보일 수 있는 다양한 프로젝트를 준비하고 있습니다. 민주인권포스터 프로젝트는 시각예술 중 포스터라는 형식을 통해 민주인권의 가치를 탐구하며, 디자인이 어떠한 방식으로 사회 참여의 목소리를 낼 수 있는지 제안하는 프로젝트입니다.
'민주주의와 인권을 최대화할 수 있는 시각 언어는 무엇인가?'라는 화두를 통해 50인(팀)의 그래픽 작가들이 총 100점의 포스터를 제작합니다. 작가들은 국가폭력, 반민주주의, 인권침해에 대항한 사건과 이슈를 살펴보고 이를 자신만의 언어로 시각화합니다. 민주인권포스터 프로젝트의 결과물은 민주인권기념관에 아카이빙되어 차후 전시, 출판, 교육, 홍보 등에도 사용될 예정입니다. 이와 더불어 포스터 이미지, 포스터에 대한 간략한 설명과 본 프로젝트에 대한 대화 및 관련 담론을 포함한 출판물도 발행할 계획입니다.

On the Democracy and Human Rights Poster Project
The National Museum of Democracy and Human Rights will open in 2024 as a new cultural space which adds exhibition and educational facilities to the preserved Anti-Communist Investigation Office in Namyeongdong, once the site and a symbol of human rights abuses and state violence.
The National Museum of Democracy and Human Rights, which will be born as a space for memory and introspection, communication and solidarity, and human rights education, is preparing various projects as well as exhibitions. The Democracy and Human Rights Poster Project explores the value of democracy and human rights through the visual art medium of posters, and proposes ways that design can act as a voice for participation in society. The Design History Society of Korea and Eeuncontents are working together with the National Museum of Democracy and Human Rights.
A total of 100 posters will be designed by 50 participating artists (teams) addressing the question of “What is the visual language that can maximize democracy and human rights?” Artists are asked to look at global incidents and issues against state violence, anti-democracy, and human rights violations and visualize them in their own language. The results of the Democracy and Human Rights Poster Project will be archived at the National Museum of Democracy and Human Rights and will be used for future exhibitions, publications, education, and promotion. In addition, we plan to produce a publication including poster images, brief descriptions of the posters, and related discourses about the project.
